{"id":7,"date":"2017-07-21T09:50:45","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T09:50:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kedwards.com\/cs6452\/?page_id=7"},"modified":"2019-05-12T12:02:54","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T12:02:54","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kedwards.com\/cs6452\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #626262;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">Welcome to the course site for CS6452 Prototyping Interactive Systems (Fall 2017).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Here you&#8217;ll find a course calendar, useful links, and information about homework assignments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #626262;\">This class is an introduction to computing for HCC and HCI graduate students with non-technical backgrounds, with a focus on ensuring you can understand how software works, how to create working interactive prototypes of your ideas, &nbsp;and how to communicate with a software team about software.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students will be exposed to various software architecture considerations and tradeoffs.&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #626262;\">For our HCC PhD program, this class is designed to provide a foundation for students to meet their computational portfolio requirements, including reading, writing, doing and talking about technical ideas and issues.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #626262;\">The course title has might be somewhat misleading. &nbsp;This is&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;a class about using prototyping tools (e.g., Flash). &nbsp;It is&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;a class&nbsp;about evaluating prototypes, and it is&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;a class for technical students interesting in designing and building interacting prototypes (we have other HCI classes for these topics). &nbsp;Instead, this is a class about the<em>&nbsp;rapid creation of interactive systems through programming<\/em>, with an emphasis on scripting languages and common technical idioms that are useful across a breadth of CS.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #626262;\"><br \/>\n\u200bThis class covers both theory and practice of pragmatic systems building&nbsp;as well as skills in describing\/arguing\/defending your design choices.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the course site for CS6452 Prototyping Interactive Systems (Fall 2017).
